You don’t know until you give it a go
Despite moments of self-doubt, Charmaine Field, Claims Manager at North Queensland Insurance Brokers (NQIB), applied for the 2023 NIBA Claims Broker of the Year Award and not only won but relished the experience.
“I saw the NIBA email promoting the award, and while I thought winning it could never happen to me, I like to push the boundaries and strive for excellence, so I decided to give it a go,” Charmaine said. “Applying for the award gave me the chance to reflect on my achievements and strengths, and it was a helpful validation of my self-worth. The application process was easy and user-friendly, and winning the award has been life changing.”
Charmaine’s career journey
Charmaine has been in the insurance broking industry since 2010, starting out as a receptionist. She studied to achieve qualifications in insurance broking, moved into the NQIB claims department in 2016, and has been a Claims Manager since 2019. Charmaine also has two children, who are 11 and 12 years old. Juggling a family and career has not always been easy, but she is glad that she persevered.
“I enjoy my role as a Claims Manager, every day is different, and while there can be ups and downs, overall, it is rewarding,” Charmaine said. “I believe that if you have a positive attitude, it will keep you motivated through any tough times. Persistence, resilience, and hard work certainly pays off, and I’m proud that my kids have learnt these values through my career journey.

“As part of the NIBA Claims Broker of the Year Award, I attended the 2023 NIBA Convention on the Gold Coast last year,” Charmaine added. “It was a great opportunity to learn more about our profession and continue my growth and development.”
