The Insurance Council of Australia has reported that insurers have received more than 3,950 claims. The government has announced a range of grants and financial assistance for families, businesses and the wider community, including an $8 million Community Relief Fund.

Personal Hardship Assistance includes Grants of $180 for individuals and up to $900 for a family of five or more to cover essentials like food, clothing and medicine. Uninsured residents may also be entitled to income-tested grants up to $5,000 per household to inspect and reconnect damaged services like electricity, gas and water. Disaster Assistance Loans up to $250,000 for eligible primary producers and small businesses & Essential Working Capital Loans for farmers, small businesses and NFPs up to $100,000 are available to help operators carry on business operations, including paying salaries or wages, creditors, rent or rates. Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment offers residents $1,000 per eligible adult and $400 per eligible child for people who suffered serious damage or injury as a result of the floods, to help with the costs of recovery.
