CPD for Members
All individual NIBA members are required to complete a minimum of 25 CPD points each year, ending on 30 October. CPD points can be earned through a variety of accredited activities, including seminars, industry expos, conventions, and the annual NIBA Convention.

Earning CPD Points
Structured CPD
Members must complete at least 17.5 structured CPD points annually. Structured activities include:
Courses with formal assessments, such as Certificate II/III, Diplomas, Degrees, Graduate Certificates, or Master’s Degrees.
- Up to 10 points per module
- Maximum 20 points per 12-month period
- 1 point per hour
- 3 points for a half-day (up to 4 hours)
- 6 points for a full day (up to 8 hours)
- 10 points for two days
- 12 points for three days
Includes lectures, seminars, workshops, industry discussion groups, distance education with assessments, and internal training.
- 0.5 point per 30 minutes
- 1 point per hour
- 3 points for a half-day
- 6 points for a full day
Includes serving as a representative on a NIBA committee and contributing to NIBA policy development. Routine administrative tasks are not eligible.
- 3 points per committee
Unstructured CPD
Members may claim up to 7.5 unstructured CPD points annually through:
Includes reading professional journals such as Insurance Adviser Magazine or other relevant publications. No accreditation is required.
Personal or professional research on unfamiliar topics may be eligible. To claim points:
- The research must be substantive and presented (e.g. to colleagues or a supervisor)
- Accreditation is assessed on a case-by-case basis
- These activities are not listed on the NIBA CPD Register
CPD Exemptions
Members who work part-time (fewer than 3 days per week) or have temporarily left the industry may qualify for pro-rata CPD requirements. Contact info@niba.com.au for guidance.
Activities Not Eligible for CPD
The following do not qualify for CPD points:
- Networking events
- Business strategy, planning or marketing meetings
- Staff inductions or internal system training
- Motivational sessions
- First aid or non-relevant RTO training
- Company updates
- Informal retelling of attended sessions
