NIBA Thanks IBCCC Representative David Duffield for Longstanding Service and Welcomes New IBCCC Industry Representative

Media Release

The National Insurance Brokers Association (NIBA) thanks David Duffield for his long service and lasting contribution as the Industry Representative on the Insurance Brokers Code Compliance Committee (IBCCC).

Appointed as the Industry Representative back in 2017, David has been a steadfast advocate for the broking profession. Throughout his tenure he has brought deep technical expertise, sound judgement and a balanced industry voice to the IBCCC.

NIBA President Nick Cook thanked David for his long and dedicated service.

“On behalf of the NIBA Board and our members across Australia, I extend my sincere thanks to David for his immense contribution as the Industry Representative on the IBCCC over the past 9 years,” Nick said.

“David leaves a lasting legacy of working to lift professional standards and strengthening trust in the broking profession. We are grateful for his service, his wise counsel and his advocacy, and wish him all the very best for his future endeavours,” Nick added.

With more than 45 years of experience in the insurance industry, David has also served as a previous NIBA Director for over 15 years and was the recipient of the Lex McKeown award in 2015. He has championed the highest standards of professionalism across the sector, including the development and implementation of the Insurance Brokers Code of Practice (the Code), during his term as NIBA President.

David will conclude his final term as the Industry Representative on 31 December 2025. He will be succeeded by Jeff Howells, who will commence his three-year term from 1 January 2026.

“It’s been an honour and privilege to serve as the Industry Representative and represent the broking profession on the IBCCC. I wish Jeff the best of luck as he steps into this important role,” David said.

Jeff brings over five decades of experience in the general insurance industry across a variety of roles, and has been an insurance broker for more than 40 years. He has held senior management positions at Austbrokers Holdings and Jardine Lloyd Thompson (JLT), leading high-performing divisions specialising in major global and national clients. He was the former Managing Director of Austbrokers Sydney and established AIMS. This breadth of experience gives him a strong understanding of the complex risk landscape and the vital role that brokers play in the Australian financial sector.

He was a Senior Associate of ANZIIF (CIP), has held an Advanced Diploma of Financial Services (QPIB), a Business Management Certificate from the Australian Institute of Management (AIM) and was an Associate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD).

Jeff expressed his excitement in getting the opportunity to serve as the Industry Representative on the IBCCC.

“I am delighted to take on this important role, which is an opportunity to give back to the sector and advocate for the value of brokers in the broader risk landscape,” Jeff said.

NIBA CEO Richard Klipin welcomed Jeff’s appointment as the incoming Industry Representative.

“We are pleased to see someone of Jeff’s calibre and experience appointed as the Industry Representative on the IBCCC. Jeff brings a deep understanding of broking, strong leadership credentials and a longstanding commitment to professionalism and client care,” Richard said.

NIBA looks forward to working closely with Jeff and the IBCCC, continuing to champion high standards across the profession.
