NIBA Begins Consultation on the Proposed Revision of the Code of Practice, Launching the “Your Voice, Your Code” Member Engagement Campaign
The National Insurance Brokers Association (NIBA) has opened member and stakeholder consultation as the next step in the review of the Insurance Brokers Code of Practice (the Code).
NIBA is also pleased to announce the launch of a new member engagement campaign called “Your
Voice, Your Code”, aimed at encouraging Code subscribers and NIBA members to help shape the future direction of the Code.
The Code helps ensure the highest standards of professional conduct and contributes to strengthening consumer protection. It sets clear expectations for what Australian businesses, families, and communities can expect when they work with an insurance broker.
“The Code is how our profession collectively demonstrates its ongoing commitment to self-regulation. Thatʼs why our next chapter should be shaped by you, our members and Code Subscribers, who live it every day. On behalf of NIBA, I invite all members to have their say in the
consultation process. Your insight will help ensure the Code continues to reflect the highest professional standards and stays fit-for-purpose in an evolving landscape,” said NIBA CEO Richard Klipin.
This revision follows the Independent Reviewerʼs final report delivered in December, which made 14 recommendations to strengthen and modernise the Code. NIBA released its formal response in January, setting out its position on each proposed recommendation.
Importantly, this consultation is about how to implement the changes effectively, ensuring the revised Code strengthens consumer outcomes while remaining practical and workable across different broking business models.
“Your Voice, Your Code” Member Campaign
The “Your Voice, Your Code” member engagement campaign will run throughout the consultation period to encourage broad participation across the profession, from experienced practitioners to those early in their careers, recognising that the Code must reflect both consumer needs and the practical realities of professional broking practice.
“A future-ready Code is one of the clearest signals of consumer trust and confidence in our profession. It demonstrates to key stakeholders across government, regulators and the wider community that brokers are strongly committed towards professionalism, accountability and putting clients first. As we go through this review, I encourage every member to contribute and help shape what comes next,” said NIBA President Nick Cook.
