Support Also Available for West Australians Affected by Ex-Tropical Cyclone Narelle

News Insurance

The Australian Government has expanded financial assistance for West Australians impacted by the severe weather and flooding associated with ex-Tropical Cyclone Narelle, with both the Disaster Recovery Payment and Disaster Recovery Allowance now available across additional locations.

The Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment (AGDRP) — a one-off payment of $1,000 per eligible adult and $400 per eligible child — has been extended to impacted areas. The payment applies to those who have experienced major home damage, serious injury or the loss of a loved one as a direct result of the event.

The Disaster Recovery Allowance (DRA), which provides up to 13 weeks of income support for eligible workers and sole traders who have lost income due to the disaster, has also been activated across six LGAs: Ashburton, Carnarvon, Exmouth, Shark Bay, Upper Gascoyne and Yalgoo.

Minister for Emergency Management Kristy McBain said the extension reflects the government's recognition that recovery takes time.

"The extension of support to communities across multiple locations is necessary as many people are still impacted by the severe weather and flooding associated with ex-Tropical Cyclone Narelle," Minister McBain said. "The immediate financial boost will ensure families can buy essentials which may have been lost or misplaced."

Both payments sit alongside broader support available through the joint Commonwealth-state Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA). Eligible residents can apply via myGov or call the Emergency Information Line on 180 22 66.
