Have you checked your CPD progress?
As we approach the end of 2023, it is important that all members are aware of their continuing professional development obligation (CPD). The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) requires all advisers to complete an annual CPD training plan.
As NIBA members, you are required to obtain a minimum of 50 CPD points over a two-year period. The current two-year period commenced 1 January this year. It is recommended that brokers complete an average of 25 annually, to ensure they meet the minimum number of CPD points by the end of the two-year period.
Members can earn CPD points for completing both structured and unstructured CPD points but must obtain a minimum of 35 points from structured CPD activities. Examples of structured CPD include;
- undertaking further qualifications such as upgrading to a Tier 1 or Diploma qualification;
- completing a NIBA CPD accredited program;
- attending industry events that focus on education and/or professional development;
- participating in professional activities such as seminars, workshops, industry discussion groups, conferences etc; or
- undertaking industry leadership activities such as contributing articles, giving presentations or participating in mentoring programs.
Throughout the year NIBA holds many CPD accredited events, if you attended a NIBA event this year, including the NIBA convention, make sure you check the NIBA CPD register to find out how many CPD points you are entitled to. For brokers who are yet to meet the 25 CPD point average, NIBA has a number of on-demand webinars available to watch.
Members are able to record their CPD via the ‘My Accreditation’ portal on the NIBA website. Which helps members track their progress to ensure they meet their obligations. For more information on CPD eligible activities or guidance on developing a CPD training plan for the 2024 calendar year visit the NIBA website.
