Celebrating the 2023 NIBA Mentoring Program

The 2023 NIBA Mentoring Program came to a successful close with its final Workshop on Thursday 19 October. 2023 marked the 15th edition of the program, and it featured an exciting development – for the first time, the program was conducted simultaneously in five different states with a record number of participants.
The 2023 program spanned 12 weeks, running from August to October, and featured a series of key events, including 3 face-to-face workshops, 2 webinars, and 7 mentor/mentee 1:1 meetings. These events facilitated valuable connections and offered enriching learning experiences to the participants.
We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the mentors, mentees and committees who have contributed to the success of this program over the years. Your dedication and commitment have played a significant role in making this mentoring initiative a continued success.

NIBA Gala Dinner & Awards Ceremony 2023

The 2023 winners of the Large General Insurer of the Year, Specialty Insurer of the Year and Underwriting Agency of the Year awards were announced at the 2023 NIBA Convention Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony. Vero won the 2023 Large General Insurer of the Year award, while Liberty Specialty Markets was named the 2023 Specialty Insurer of the Year award. NTI were announced as the winner of the 2023 Underwriting Agency of the Year award.
The Vero-sponsored 2023 Young Broker of the Year award was won by Taylor Burstow of East West Insurance Brokers from Qld. The QBE-sponsored 2023 Broker of the Year award was won by Barry Sonter of Finsura Insurance Broking from NSW. Gary Seymour, Chairman of Edgewise Insurance Brokers, was presented with the 2023 Lex McKeown Trophy.

NIBA Convention 2023

The insurance broking community descended upon the Gold Coast, otherwise known as the ‘spiritual home’ of NIBA for the 2023 NIBA Convention. With this being the first traditional face-to-face Convention in more than three years, there was a strong turnout of delegates, sponsors and exhibitors ready to engage, network and be inspired by an exciting lineup of speakers.
The 2023 NIBA Convention kicked off with the NIBA CGU Welcome Function.
Attendees also got to hear more about the strategic direction of NIBA moving forward.

In today's competitive job market, attracting and retaining top talent is more challenging than ever. The panel session brought together industry experts, HR professionals, and diversity advocates to explore how organisations can navigate the talent shortage from a diversity lens.
The 2023 Dive In Festival is the ninth edition of one of the world's largest diversity, equity, and inclusion events.

NIBA VIC ‘It’s okay not to be okay’ Breakfast Seminar 2023

The NIBA Vic Committee hosted a breakfast seminar in recognition of R U Ok? Day with mental health charity "It's okay, not to be okay''.
Developed in 2016 by three sisters following the tragic loss of their brother to suicide, the charity's mission is to advocate and create change in mental health, grief support and suicide prevention by increasing mental health literacy and raising awareness about available support services.

On Friday 14 July, the eagerly awaited 2023 WA Gala Lunch took place at the Grand Ballroom in Crown Perth. The event provided an opportunity for attendees to network with each other and for the WA broking community to come together and celebrate the achievements of the past year.
The Master of Ceremonies for the event was Peter Curulli. The lunch had speeches from NIBA President Gary Okely and NIBA CEO Philip Kewin before proceeding with the announcement of the WA Young Broker of the Year and Broker of the Year award winners.
The QBE-sponsored 2023 WA Broker of the Year award was awarded to Frans du Plessis from Grace Insurance and the Vero-sponsored 2023 WA Young Broker of the Year award was won by Justin Purslowe from Aviso WA Insurance Brokers.

On Wednesday 12 July, the much-anticipated 2023 NSW Gala Lunch took place at The Fullerton Hotel to a packed audience.
